Raspberries

Care & Cultivation Guide: Raspberries

PLANT GOOD STOCK: The canes we have available have been passed by Ministry inspectors.

USE FRESH GROUND: Where possible plant new canes in ground which has never cropped raspberries before, and avoid wet or boggy areas.

PREPARE THE GOUND: Remove perennial weeds. Fork in organic manure. Work soil to a fine tilth.

CARE WHEN PLANTING: Soak roots prior to planting. Plant to the depth of the old soil mark at 45cm (18in) spacing in rows 1.8m (6ft) apart. Cut back to 23cm (9in).

AFTER CARE:  Water during dry periods. Feed with Vitax Q4. Mulch with compost, rotted farmyard manure or Forest Bark. Spray as necessary to control mildew, grey mould and greenfly.

SUBSEQUENTLY: Erect post and wire training system. Remove completely any canes which have fruited and train in the new canes. Remove any suckers which appear away from the stool.
