About Us

Established in 1958, we are a family owned and run Retail Nursery. Located two miles north of the beautiful spa town of Harrogate, we pride ourselves in an extensive range and quality of plants we grow and sell.

In recent years there has been much emphasis in the media on 'hard landscaping', decking, building walls and patios and on gadgets for the garden but, we forget the one basic fact, something we strongly believe in; a garden isn't a garden without plants! Plants are the most important feature in any garden and it is to this end that we strive to produce and source our extensive range. Most of the plants we sell, are grown here on our 8 hectare (20 acres) nursery. Although we still use some traditional methods in our growing, we are always looking at new ways and ideas to produce the quality our customers have come to expect. An idea of the range of plants we grow, many of which are new, unusual or hard to find, can be found in our regularly updated Availability Lists.

In addition to plants we also sell a wide range of other plant related sundry items from many of the well-known and not so well known manufacturers.

Daleside Nurseries Objective is: To offer our customers the best products and techincal support based on our own practical experience. We only sell what we believe in - we are not interested in gimmicks.

The Great Storm of 1962.

Less than four years after starting business it was back to square one. The following photographs show the aftermath of gale force winds during the night of 10th/11th February 1962.

The Hail Storm, 1968.

Six years after galeforce winds flattened our greenhouses, a freak hail storm swept down Nidderdale and shattered almost every pane of glass on the nursery, causing extensive damage to the majority of our plants. This photograph was taken at 11am on 2nd July 1968.

Hail Stone Damage, 2nd July 1968.

The Queen's Visit to York Races, 1977.

Her Majesty the Queen visited York races during Her silver jubilee year and we provided the floral decorations.

TdF Sheep

Le Tour de France, July 2014.

A very exciting and fun time for the nursery, one we (and probably the sheep) will never forget!!
