Medlars are ornamental, flowering trees with a pretty blossom. They provide good autumn colour and fruits which are edible, although is tart if eaten raw. They make pleasantly flavoured jellies and can be used in desserts. The fruit mellows, if left to soften and is a traditional and unusual treat.
