SPECIES CLEMATIS

Species clematis are very diverse and generally have smaller flowers. It is possible to have one in flower at most months of the year. They are some of the hardiest clematis in this group.

CLEMATIS PRUNING TECHNIQUES

pruning group1
        GROUP 1 - Cut all stems to 30cm in the first year. In subsequent years, cut out dead or weak stems after flowering. Cut all stems back to 1m in the first year. In subsequent years, prune just above previous year to a strong pair of buds. Prune in autumn or spring.

        GROUP 2 - Cut all stems back to 1m in the first year. In subsequent years, prune just above previous year to a strong pair of buds. Prune in autumn or spring.
           
pruning group 3
        GROUP 3 - Reduce all stems to just above the base of previous seasons growth, within 75cm of the soil level. Prune in early March.
